The range of a set of numbers is the difference between the largest and the smallest number in the set.

For example: Consider the group of numbers {19, 22, 21, 50, 40}.


This data can be arranged in ascending order as:
19, 21, 22, 40, 50

Largest number in this group = 50
Smallest number in this group = 19

Range = Largest number – Smallest number = 50 – 19 = 31
